Xiamen Airlines has reported an operating profit of CNY2 billion ($317.4 million) in 2012, up 17% over CNY1.7 billion in 2011. The profit is due to the robust growth of domestic market demand.

Passenger boardings rose 6.7% to more than 16 million last year. Load factor and cargo traffic volume figures were not released.

Xiamen Airlines operates a fleet of 81 Boeing aircraft on more than 210 routes. This year the carrier is scheduled to take delivery of 15 new Boeing aircraft. The carrier committed to purchasing 40 Boeing 737-800 NextGens last year and plans to grow its operational fleet to 200 aircraft by the end of 2020.

Last month, Jizhong Energy Resource Co. purchased a 15% stake in Xiamen Airlines from Hebei Aviation Investment Group, which purchased a 15% stake in the carrier in December 2010.
