A new Airbus A319 of Sichuan Airlines (3U) arrived in Chengdu at 4:40 p.m. on Sep. 6, bringing the airline 's fleet to 79 aircraft.
As Chengdu becomes a more and more important air hub, its passenger and cargo throughput are increasing rapidly. Sichuan Airlines, along with three other Chengdu-based airlines, has been busy expanding its fleet with new aircraft.
"The airline will introduce 3 more new aircraft by the end of the year 2013, lifting its fleet to 82 aircraft. The airline plans to introduce 10 aircraft this year," said an executive from Sichuan Airlines. The airline currently operates an all-Airbus fleet. It is informed that Sichuan Airlines will add 10 aircraft on average to its fleet each year during the 12th Five-Year Plan period (2011-2015).
At the same time, the other three Chengdu-based airlines have also introduced new aircraft. The Southwest Branch of Air China (CA) has introduced 4 aircraft this year, increasing its fleet to 68 aircraft. It plans to introduce 7 or 8 aircraft in all within this year. Chengdu Airlines (EU) will take delivery of one new aircraft in October, when the airline 's fleet will total 11 aircraft. Besides, the Sichuan Branch of China Eastern Airlines (MU) has introduced one plane in early 2013 and expects to introduce one Airbus aircraft within this year. The number of aircraft introduced or to be introduced by the 4 Chengdu-based airlines will total 20 this year.
